Assistant Director killed in Road Accident in Handwara

Handwara, January 28: An assistant Director of Forest Protection Force died in a road accident in chogul Handwara of Kupwara district on Monday.
The accident happened when an army casper coming from Kupwara towards Sopore collided with an Alto car bearing registration No JK05B 5769 at Chogul Handwara resulting in critical injuries to the driver of the car. The injured was taken to PHC Chogul for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased driver was identified as Aijaz Rasool Wani son of Ghulam Rasool Wani resident of Sopore who was working as an Assistant Director in Forest Protection Department and was presently posted in Nutnussa area of Kupwara District.
A police official said that an FIR No.15/2019 U/S 279, 304-A, 427RPC has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigations has been taken up. The Driver of the army vehicle has been taken into custody and vehicle has been seized by the police.
Soon after the accident, situation at the accident spot turned ugly when the protestors started protesting on the chogul-Handwara road. Protesters alleged that the driver of the vehicle deliberately hit the car and demanded strict action against the culprit. However the timely intervention of police helped in turning the situation ugly as the Polcie assured the protesting youths that action will be taken as per law.
The body has been handed over to family after postmortem and further legal procedures.
