DC Bandipora inaugurates One-Stop Centre for Women

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 27: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Monday inaugurated One-stop Centre-Sakhi established with an aim to provide an array of services, from skill development to psychological assistance to violence affected women under one roof.

          Superintendent of Police  Sheikh Zulfikar Azad,  Chief Medical Officer  Bandipora Dr Bilkees Mir, District Social Welfare Officer Altaf Hussain and other senior officers of the district.

          Speaking on the occasion, DC Bandipora said the One-Stop Centre will be exclusively for the women and will be run by the women staff. He said the centre will serve women affected by violence, in private or at public places, within the family, community or at workplace.

          He said the centre will have representatives from health, Education, administration, Police besides the resources persons from various department who will assist the aggrieved womenfolk. He said OSC will also provide awareness about various women-specific schemes besides skill development initiatives and other activities. "The centre would also keep a vigil on issues of drug abuse, rehabilitation, relief, and assistance," he said.

          Dr Choudhary said the Sakhi is the place of the Women managed by the Women and for the women where she can walk in without any fear and can discuss their problems freely. He said in most of the cases of violence,  women hesitate to file a complaint because of fear. “OSC is designed to help victims in this regard in a favorable atmosphere,” he said. “It will provide access to integrated range of services under one roof including medical aid, police assistance, legal aid/case management, psychosocial counseling, and temporary support services to women affected by violence. 

          While elaborating on the project, Dr Choudhary said the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD), has formulated this scheme for setting up ‘One Stop Centre’, a sub-scheme of Umbrella Scheme for National Mission for Empowerment of women including Indira Gandhi Mattritav Sahyaog Yojana (IGMSY).

          He said a Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK) is also being established separately that aims to empower rural women through community participation and to create an environment in which they realize their full potential. “It will provide an interface for rural women to approach the government for availing their entitlements also empowering them through training and capacity building”.
