Pampore, November 7: The District Administration Pulwama on Saturday launched a special programme under the Skill Development, Self-Employment, Sports and Studies (SSS) Campaign at Shar Shali area of Pampore to connect local youth with various government schemes, training programmes and livelihood opportunities.

The programme was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Awantipora Mushtaq Ahmad Lone in the presence of Tehsildar Pampore Asif Ahmad Malik and other district and sectoral officers.

Speaking to Kashmir Convener, ADC Mushtaq Ahmad Lone said the initiative, announced by Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Kuldeep Krishan Sidha during a public outreach programme at Shar Shali on November 4, was launched in the area in fulfilment of the DC’s commitment.

He said the special camp brought together various government departments to ensure that residents, particularly youth from remote areas, could access information about government schemes, skill training and employment opportunities.

Lone said Polytechnic Colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) were facilitating the enrolment of local youth in vocational and skill-based courses to enhance their employability.

Under the self-employment component, departments including the District Industries Centre, Employment Department, Mission YUVA, banks, Agriculture and Horticulture had set up stalls to educate participants about schemes aimed at helping them establish business ventures and income-generating units.

He said residents were also being registered and provided handholding support to understand the process of accessing financial assistance and setting up their ventures.

“Once financial assistance is sanctioned through banks, the beneficiaries are also provided support and training for establishing their units. They are further guided in developing their products and exploring opportunities to market and sell them,” he said.

The ADC said the objective was to help local youth and other residents become self-reliant by availing themselves of available government schemes. He stressed that people living in remote areas should also have access to such opportunities and benefits.

Various departments and institutions, including Education, ITIs, Polytechnic Colleges, Youth Services and Sports, Agriculture, Horticulture and Geology and Mining, had established stalls at the venue to provide information about their schemes, courses and programmes.

Lone said the camp continued throughout the day, with residents receiving guidance according to their individual requirements. Persons with disabilities were also informed about government support and welfare initiatives.

He added that special attention was being given to youngsters interested in sports, with the aim of providing them coaching, guidance and opportunities to pursue their ambitions at national and international levels.
