Srinagar, Oct 10: Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Saturday said their success hinges on public cooperation and urged residents to approach them with grievances, assuring timely redressal.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinder Pal Singh, addressing a press conference at the SDPO office in Pattan, said the police can deliver only when the public extends its support.

“We are here for the protection and welfare of the people. Whenever there are concerns, the public should come forward to us — be it the SHO, SDPO, SSP or even the DIG — for the redressal of their sufferings, issues and concerns,” SSP Singh said.

He said the police are successful only when people cooperate and support them, adding that only together can a peaceful environment be created for a successful society.

The SSP was addressing the media about the police’s performance, particularly the solving of several theft cases by Baramulla police, including three in Pattan and two in Kreeri. He also praised his officers for their efforts in securing a peaceful environment.

According to officials, the first case pertained to a burglary at a copperware shop in Hyderbeigh Market during the intervening night of August 5-6, 2026, following a complaint by Shakeel Ahmad Malik of Singhpora, Pattan. An FIR (No. 186/2026) was registered under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

During the investigation, several suspects were questioned and a juvenile was apprehended on September 24, 2026. Subsequent leads took the police to the residence of Nazir Ahmad Dar in Chainabal, where copper utensils valued at ₹4,05,314 were recovered, officials said.

Nazir Ahmad Dar and Showkat Ahmad Mir have been arrested, while Imran Mir is absconding and Nisar Ahmad Dar is in the custody of Police Station Leh in another case. Police records show Nisar Ahmad Dar figures in two FIRs and Imran Mir in 13.

In the second case, FIR No. 226/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS was registered on the complaint of Ashiq Hussain Lone of Goshbugh, Pattan, a contractor associated with Lumino Industries Private Limited. He reported that electric poles kept near a petrol pump at Palhallan for installation in Saderbal village were stolen on September 29, 2026.

Four stolen electric poles, valued at approximately ₹50,000, were recovered from the native village of Adil Bashir Mir of Kakothal, Kreeri, after police examined human and technical inputs. Further investigation is underway, officials said.

The third case related to the theft of approximately ₹83,000 in cash and other articles from a Khidmat Centre in Mirpora Mamoosa, Pattan, following a written complaint by Mir Waheed. The memory chip of the mini-CCTV camera installed at the premises was also found missing. FIR No. 222/2026 was registered on September 25, 2026.

Scrutiny of police records, verification through the ICJS portal and other inputs led to the identification of Rameez Ahmad Naikoo of Bhan, Kulgam, as a suspect. A police team went to Kulgam, where a search at his residence led to the recovery of ₹5,130, believed to be part of the stolen cash.

He was arrested on September 27, 2026, within 48 hours of registration of the case. Police said he is involved in 13 other FIRs.

Separately, Pattan Police traced and recovered 13 lost mobile phones through the CEIR portal. The devices are collectively valued at several lakhs of rupees, officials said.

A police officer said the detection of the cases, recovery of stolen property and tracing of the lost phones demonstrated the commitment of Police Sub-Division Pattan towards crime detection, technology-driven policing and protection of public and private property.

District Police Baramulla reiterated its resolve to maintain law and order, strengthen public confidence in policing and ensure criminal cases are investigated professionally, impartially and in accordance with law, the officer added.

Meanwhile, in two other cases in Kreeri, police achieved a major success by solving both within 24 hours, officials said.
