UT Level U-17 Football Championship begins in Baramulla

19 Districts, 344 Players take part; Hosts begin campaign with 7-0 win over Doda

Baramulla, October 9: The UT-Level Inter-District Provincial Football Championship for Under-17 Boys began in Baramulla on Thursday, with 19 districts and 344 players participating in the tournament. Hosts Baramulla made a strong start, defeating Doda 7-0 in the opening fixture.

The championship is being organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), J&K, and hosted by the department’s Baramulla district unit at St. Joseph’s School Ground.

The tournament was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Pranjal Hazarika in the presence of the 2IC, 112 Battalion BSF Baramulla, and St. Joseph’s School Principal Suresh Brittoo.

Hazarika appreciated the department’s efforts to promote grassroots sports and urged the players to compete with discipline and sportsmanship. Brittoo highlighted the role of sports in developing leadership qualities and character among students.

The championship will be played on a league basis across five venues.

DYSSO Baramulla Mushtaq Ahmad Pampori welcomed the participating contingents and reiterated the department’s commitment to providing young athletes with competitive platforms to showcase their talent.
