MLA Nizamuddin Bhat Reviews Development Works at HKM College Bandipora

Assures ₹1 crore for girls’ activity-cum-rest room, ₹30 lakh for college bus

Bandipora, October 6: MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat on Tuesday visited Hassan Khoyihami Memorial (HKM) Government Degree College at Patushai and reviewed ongoing infrastructure works and the academic and student-related requirements of the institution.

According to a an official spokesperson of the MLA, infrastructure works worth around ₹20 crore are currently under execution on the campus, including a girls’ hostel, library, playground and other facilities.

During an interaction with the college administration, faculty and students, MLA Bhat assured support of approximately ₹1 crore from the Apex Budget for construction of a girls’ activity-cum-waiting room.

He also assured ₹30 lakh from his MLA Constituency Development Fund for procurement of a college bus to address transportation requirements.

On the occasion, Principal Prof. Suresh Kumar Dogra apprised the MLA of the institution’s infrastructure and developmental requirements and sought support on matters requiring government attention.

The status of the already allotted Library Block was also discussed, along with the proposed sanction of an Auditorium Block.

The MLA referred to the assurance given by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his visit to the college in June 2026 regarding sanction of the auditorium project.

The college administration also raised issues related to accessibility and student scholarships and apprised the MLA of difficulties faced by students in these areas.

During his interaction with students, Bhat discussed the functioning of the political system and democratic institutions and responded to questions raised by the students. He encouraged them to understand the functioning of public institutions and participation in the democratic process.

The spokesperson said the visit also provided an opportunity for students and staff to directly raise their concerns regarding infrastructure and other institutional requirements.

The interaction was moderated by Dr Ghulam Mohammad Khan of the Department of English, while Prof. Sadaf Shafi, also from the Department of English, delivered the vote of thanks.
