Srinagar, October 1: Deputy Director General, Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, Altaf Hussain Haji is on a four-day Area Officer visit to Jammu and Kashmir from September 30 to October 3 to review the implementation and progress of various rural development schemes in Srinagar and Anantnag districts.
Haji, the designated Area Officer for MoRD schemes, also attended a training programme on Viksit Bharat Gram Panchayat (VB-GRAMG) organised by the Department of Rural Development for Block Development Officers (BDOs) of Srinagar and Ganderbal districts.
Interacting with the officers, Haji emphasised greater convergence among government schemes, enhanced awareness about rural development programmes and identification of low-development Gram Panchayats for focused interventions. He said targeted efforts would help such Panchayats progress towards becoming Viksit Panchayats in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat.
During a field visit accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Rural Development, Srinagar, Tariq Ahmad Reshi, and other officials, Haji interacted with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), beneficiaries and other stakeholders associated with rural livelihoods and development schemes in Khonmoh and Qamarwari blocks.
He also interacted with members of the Umeed Ka Zaika SHG, which, according to officials, has gained recognition in Jammu and Kashmir within a short period of three to four months.
Haji observed the functioning of SHGs under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) and noted their efforts towards achieving the goal of becoming ‘Lakhpati Didis’. The members also expressed aspirations of progressing further towards becoming ‘Crorepati Didis’.
The visiting officer reviewed the implementation status of various rural development schemes in Srinagar and discussed measures to improve their outreach and ensure that the intended benefits reach a larger number of beneficiaries.
District administration officials were advised to expedite and strengthen the implementation of ongoing rural development schemes. Haji also stressed the need for grassroots-level awareness programmes to ensure that rural communities are adequately informed about government schemes and the benefits available to them.
He further emphasised greater convergence among departments and schemes to achieve targets effectively and maximise benefits for beneficiaries.
At the concluding leg of his Srinagar visit, Haji met officials of the Department of Rural Development, Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting reviewed achievements under various rural development schemes and discussed issues related to their effective implementation.
