Baramulla, September 29: The first district-level philatelic exhibition of Baramulla Postal Division, VARMULPEX-2026, began at the University of Kashmir North Campus, Delina, on Tuesday, showcasing nearly 2,000 rare postage stamps and special covers depicting India’s history, culture, art, biodiversity and national achievements.
Organised by the Department of Posts, Baramulla Postal Division, the two-day exhibition aims to promote philately and familiarise students and the public with India’s cultural and historical heritage through postage stamps and other philatelic material.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Srinagar Postal Division, Adam Mohi-U-Din, in the presence of faculty members, postal officials, students and philately enthusiasts.
Among those present were Bilal Ahmad Lone, Senior Professor, University of Kashmir North Campus; G.R. Bhat, Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla; and Syed Roouf Ahmad, Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Baramulla.
A special cover on “Habba Khatoon Peak, Gurez Valley” was also released on the occasion, highlighting the natural and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, Mohi-U-Din highlighted the educational and cultural value of philately, saying stamp collection helps develop an understanding of history, culture, art and nature. He encouraged students to take up philately and make use of exhibitions such as VARMULPEX to learn about the country’s heritage.
The exhibition also features special philatelic material highlighting One District One Product (ODOP) initiatives and Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged products of Jammu and Kashmir.
To encourage participation among young people, the exhibition includes quiz and stamp-design competitions, workshops and awareness sessions for school students. A seminar on philately was also held on the opening day.
Welcoming participants, Syed Roouf Ahmad highlighted the role of India Post in providing citizen-centric services, promoting financial inclusion and maintaining last-mile connectivity. He also spoke about the postal network’s contribution to social and economic development.
VARMULPEX-2026 will continue till September 30 and is expected to draw students, educational institutions, philatelists and members of the public from across Baramulla district.
