Srinagar, Sep 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Government is addressing staffing requirements in schools with relatively high pupil-teacher ratios through an ongoing rationalization exercise, Education Minister Sakeena Itoo told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a question by Uri MLA Sajjad Shafi, the minister said only 10 of the 375 government schools in Uri constituency have a pupil-teacher ratio of more than 40.
She said additional staff is being provided to understaffed schools through rationalization and judicious deployment of available teaching resources.
Itoo said applications from eligible teachers have already been invited under the Annual Transfer Drive 2026 and would be considered with due regard to the staffing requirements of schools having relatively higher pupil loads.
The minister said 22 Laboratory Assistants had recently been promoted as teachers, of whom eight were adjusted in Uri constituency. Five Masters have also been transferred to the constituency to supplement teaching arrangements, particularly in schools with higher pupil-teacher loads.
She said the rationalization exercise for the current academic year has already been initiated and staffing requirements of individual schools would be considered to ensure a more balanced distribution of teaching personnel. [KNT]
