Bandipora, September 15: The Fire and Emergency Services Department, Bandipora, conducted an awareness-cum-mock drill at PM SHRI Government High School Laharwalpora on Monday to sensitise students and staff about fire safety and emergency response.

The programme was organised on the invitation of the school’s Head of Institution. A team of Fire and Emergency Services officials led by Station Officer Zahoor Ahmad Bhat demonstrated firefighting techniques and explained the use of various equipment during emergencies.

The students and staff were given basic hands-on training in the safe operation of firefighting equipment. As part of the mock drill, students also participated in extinguishing a controlled fire under the supervision of trained fire officials.

The exercise focused on fire prevention, emergency response and personal safety, with students and teachers taking part in the demonstrations.

Head of Institution Javaid Jawad thanked the Fire and Emergency Services Department for conducting the programme and providing students with practical exposure to fire-safety measures.

He urged students to follow basic fire-safety precautions and called for public cooperation with fire and emergency personnel during incidents, saying timely assistance can help reduce the loss of life and property.

The school authorities also expressed hope that similar awareness programmes would be conducted regularly in educational institutions to improve fire-safety preparedness among students.
