Shopian, September 9: Two medical shops were sealed in Reshipora, Zainapora, after a joint enforcement team detected violations of drug control regulations during an intensified inspection drive on Monday.
The inspection was conducted by the Sub-Divisional Administration, Zainapora, as part of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the Prime Minister’s campaign against drug abuse.
The joint team, comprising the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zainapora, Assistant Drug Controller, Shopian, and an Executive Magistrate, conducted surprise inspections of medical shops operating in the Reshipora area.
During the inspection, serious violations and instances of non-compliance with provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the rules framed thereunder were detected at two medical establishments. Following the violations, both shops were sealed and further legal and regulatory proceedings were initiated as per law.
The administration said the action is part of a sustained enforcement strategy aimed at preventing the illegal sale, diversion and misuse of pharmaceutical drugs, particularly prescription medicines that have the potential for abuse.
It said surveillance of pharmacies and medical establishments across Zainapora has been strengthened, with special focus on Schedule H1 medicines, NRx drugs, psychotropic formulations and other prescription-only medicines.
Enforcement teams are also checking stock registers, purchase records, dispensing registers, prescriptions and other statutory documents during inspections to ensure compliance with drug-control regulations.
The administration has further directed pharmacy operators to maintain computerized billing records and strengthen CCTV surveillance at their establishments. Medical shops have been asked to maintain digital transaction records, preserve CCTV footage for the prescribed period and ensure that sales of regulated medicines are properly documented.
Speaking during the inspection, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Zainapora, said the administration has adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards activities contributing to drug abuse.
The SDM said pharmacies and medical establishments play an important role in preventing the misuse of prescription medicines and warned that violations of statutory provisions could invite strict action, including suspension of licences, sealing of establishments and prosecution wherever warranted.
The administration also urged healthcare professionals, pharmacists, educational institutions, community representatives and the general public to cooperate in efforts to combat drug abuse.
Citizens have been requested to report instances of illegal sale, stocking, diversion or misuse of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and prescription medicines, with the administration assuring confidentiality of information received from the public.
The administration said inspections, intelligence-based monitoring, record verification and CCTV-based surveillance would continue across the subdivision as part of its efforts towards a drug-free Shopian and drug-free India.
