BANDIPORA, AUGUST 25: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bandipora Constituency, Nizamuddin Bhat, chaired a departmental review meeting at the Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Bandipora, to assess the progress of various departments and initiatives aimed at employment generation, entrepreneurship promotion and strengthening livelihood opportunities in the district.
During the meeting, the MLA stressed the need to make the employment and livelihood sector viable, calling for effective improvements and tangible outcomes on the ground. He directed the concerned departments to identify issues affecting employment generation and take them up with the elected representatives for timely resolution, including issues related to manpower.
Reviewing the industrial sector, he stressed the need for greater focus on the Industrial Estate, better inter-departmental coordination and regular communication with higher authorities. He called for increased activity generation and directed departments to work towards creation of productive establishments and strengthen linkages among departments dealing with economic and livelihood activities.
The MLA also emphasised the need to promote products unique to Bandipora and provide sustained support to traditional and local crafts, including Kangri, and quality wool products. He called for optimum utilisation of available resources and urged the departments to focus on practical and tangible interventions that generate employment and improve livelihoods.
Reviewing the Handicrafts sector, it was informed that 15 training centres are functioning in the district for skill development and promotion of traditional crafts, while a significant number of artisans have been registered with the department.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (J&K RLM), wherein it was informed that around 1,200 Self Help Groups (SHGs) are functioning in Bandipora, besides various community-based organisations contributing towards women-led livelihood generation and socio-economic empowerment.
The MLA also reviewed the initiatives of the Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), including employment-oriented schemes such as PMEGP and REGP, and stressed the need for effective implementation of such programmes to expand self-employment opportunities across the district.
He called upon all concerned departments to work in close coordination, strengthen communication mechanisms and ensure that available government schemes and resources translate into visible benefits and sustainable employment opportunities for the people of Bandipora.
The meeting was attended by representatives and officers from the concerned departments, including DIC, Handicrafts, Handloom, J&K RLM, KVIB and other employment and livelihood-oriented institutions.
