Six Vehicles Seized in Joint Illegal Mining Drive in Pampore

Pampore, August 21: The Geology and Mining Department, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, seized six vehicles during an enforcement operation against alleged illegal mining in Pampore tehsil on Friday.

The operation was led by SDPO Pampore R.P. Singh and resulted in the seizure of two JCB machines and four dumpers allegedly found involved in unauthorised mineral extraction.

Officials said the action was part of ongoing enforcement measures aimed at curbing illegal mining and protecting mineral resources and the local environment.

The department said regular inspections and surveillance would continue to prevent unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals. It also warned that action would be taken against individuals found violating mining regulations.

Officials further said accountability would also be fixed on any departmental official or field staff found negligent in preventing illegal mining activities.

Meanwhile, the Geology and Mining Department, Pulwama, recovered a penalty of ₹2.81 lakh from stone crusher units in the Wuyan area during a separate enforcement action.

According to officials, the penalty was imposed over alleged unauthorised dumping of material by the stone crusher units. The department said the action was taken to enforce prescribed regulations governing mining and related activities.

The department reiterated that strict action would be taken against units found violating applicable rules and regulations.
