Woman seriously injured in bear attack in Khunmoh; Wildlife dept intensifies search operation

Srinagar, August 17: A 45-year-old woman was seriously injured after being attacked by a black bear in Devsar Mohalla, Khunmoh, on the outskirts of Srinagar, officials said on Monday morning.

The injured woman was identified as Fatima, wife of Mohammad Maqbool Wani, a resident of Khunmoh. According to officials, she was working in her orchard when a black bear suddenly appeared and attacked her, leaving her with serious injuries.

She was immediately shifted to a Srinagar hospital for treatment.

Officials told Kashmir Convener they received information about the incident on Monday morning, following which a team of the Wildlife Protection Department, Range Khrew, reached the area and launched a massive search operation.

The search operation was launched after local residents reported spotting the black bear in the area.

The incident comes a day after another man was seriously injured in a black bear attack in the same area. The injured man was identified as Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Khunmoh. He was also shifted to a hospital in Srinagar, where he is undergoing treatment.

The Wildlife Department has intensified efforts to locate and capture the bear following the two attacks in the area.
