Baramulla, Jul 29: Jammu and Kashmir Transport Secretary Avny Lavasa, IAS, on Wednesday carried out a surprise inspection of the ARTO office Baramulla here and directed officials to ensure time-bound disposal of pending applications, stating that the department is committed to resolving all technical glitches causing inconvenience to the public.
During her visit, Lavasa went through all sections of the office and reviewed the functioning of the Vahan and Sarathi online portals. She emphasised that the administration is working proactively to remove bottlenecks in the delivery of citizen-centric services.
“The process for the public should be smooth and hassle-free. Our objective is to ensure that citizens do not face any difficulty while availing transport-related services. We are working proactively to resolve all concerns,” she told reporters.
The Transport Secretary appealed to the public to make maximum use of digital services being strengthened across the Union Territory, saying the government is moving towards a faceless and transparent system. “If citizens avail online facilities, they need not visit transport offices repeatedly. Ease of service delivery is our priority,” she added.
Lavasa, however, acknowledged that delays continue to exist in some cases and said field-level reviews are being conducted regularly to identify and address systemic gaps.
On the issue of staff shortages, she informed that all vacant posts have been referred for recruitment and the process would be completed at the earliest while adhering to transparency norms.
Officials said the surprise inspection is part of the government’s ongoing effort to enhance accountability and strengthen public service delivery mechanisms across Jammu and Kashmir.
