Kulgam, July 29: Acting on specific intelligence provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint search operation by Kulgam Police, the Army’s 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and the 18 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) led to the recovery of a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the Tantrypora- Sursnoo orchards in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.

Officials said the search, carried out as part of a Search and Destroy Operation (SADO) and orchard sweep, resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition concealed in the orchard area.

Security officials described the recovery as a significant setback to the alleged militant network operating in the region, saying the seizure would help prevent the use of the recovered weapons in unlawful activities.

The recovered arms and ammunition have been seized for further forensic examination, while security agencies have launched further investigation to identify those responsible for concealing the weapons.

Police said efforts are underway to ascertain the intended recipients of the recovered cache and determine its link with any militant outfit. [KNT]
