Bandipora, June 25: As part of security preparedness measures for the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, a comprehensive multi-agency mock drill was conducted at the Yatra Transit Camp in Shadipora, Sumbal, on Thursday.
The exercise witnessed active participation from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army’s 24 Rashtriya Rifles, 45 Battalion CRPF, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
The mock drill simulated multiple security scenarios, including a terrorist attack on the transit camp, hostile drone intrusion and the detection of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during a Road Opening Party (ROP) operation.
Officials said all simulated threats were responded to promptly and effectively through coordinated action by the participating agencies. The exercise involved neutralisation of threats, evacuation of civilians and implementation of established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under realistic conditions.
The drill demonstrated a high level of operational preparedness, rapid response capability and seamless coordination among security and emergency response agencies tasked with ensuring the safety and security of Yatra pilgrims.
According to officials, the exercise also provided an opportunity to assess existing response mechanisms and strengthen communication systems, medical evacuation procedures and contingency management protocols, particularly during night-time operations.
The successful conduct of the mock drill reflects the collective commitment of all stakeholder agencies towards ensuring a safe, secure and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
Officials said such exercises form an integral part of the overall security framework and significantly enhance the capability of participating agencies to respond effectively to any emergency situation during the annual pilgrimage.
