Sopore, June 25: The Youth Innovation Foundation organised a menstrual health awareness workshop at Shah Rasool Memorial Welkin Educational Trust (SRM Welkin), Sopore, to promote menstrual hygiene, health awareness and break the stigma surrounding menstruation among adolescent girls.

In a statement issued to Kashmir Convener, the Foundation said the workshop was conducted by certified menstrual educators Sidrat Mehraj and Erneeb Zehra, who sensitised students about menstrual health, hygiene management, common myths and misconceptions, and the importance of adopting healthy menstrual practices.

The statement said around 300 girl students participated in the programme and actively engaged in interactive discussions and awareness sessions. The educators encouraged the students to view menstruation as a natural biological process and stressed the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene for overall well-being.

Chairperson of Shah Rasool Memorial Welkin Educational Trust, Baseema Aijaz, appreciated the initiative and commended the students for their enthusiastic participation. She emphasised the need for regular awareness programmes to empower young girls with accurate knowledge and confidence regarding menstrual health.

As part of the programme, Menstrupedia comic books were distributed among the participants to enhance their understanding of menstruation through informative and age-appropriate educational material.

The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which students openly discussed their concerns and received guidance from the resource persons. The organisers said the programme was aimed at promoting awareness, confidence and informed health choices among young girls.
