Budgam, June 22: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote menstrual health awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding menstruation, the Youth Innovation Foundation (YIF) organized menstrual education programmes at Government Boys Middle School Ponchi Chak, Sugen, Budgam, and Government Boys Middle School Kokerbagh, Sugen, Budgam.
The awareness sessions were conducted by Erneeb Zehra, who educated students about menstruation, menstrual hygiene, and the importance of fostering a supportive and informed environment around menstrual health. The programme aimed to dispel myths and misconceptions while encouraging healthy and positive attitudes towards menstruation among young learners.
During the interactive sessions, students actively participated in discussions on menstrual health, hygiene practices, and the social challenges often associated with menstruation. Zehra highlighted the importance of empathy, awareness, and mutual respect in breaking the silence and stigma that continue to surround the subject in many communities.
An official spokesperson of the Youth Innovation Foundation, while talking to Kashmir Convener, said that menstrual health education is essential for building informed and supportive communities. “Through such initiatives, we aim to empower young people with accurate knowledge and encourage open conversations around menstruation, thereby helping to create a more inclusive and understanding society,” the spokesperson said.
The students showed keen interest in the sessions and raised several queries, which were addressed in an open and informative manner. The programme helped enhance understanding of menstrual health and encouraged students to become advocates for awareness within their communities.
To further support learning, menstrual education comic books were distributed among the students. The books provided age-appropriate and easy-to-understand information, enabling students to continue learning about menstrual health beyond the classroom.
The spokesperson reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to promoting menstrual health education and conducting awareness programmes in schools and educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
The school administrations appreciated the initiative and expressed gratitude to the Youth Innovation Foundation and Erneeb Zehra for organizing meaningful and impactful educational sessions for the students.
