Srinagar, June 10: Bharti Airtel on Wednesday announced the deployment of more than 2,900 new 5G sites across the Upper North region over the past 12 months, expanding network coverage and enhancing connectivity for millions of users in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

According to the telecom service provider, the expansion spans 77 districts and now serves more than 28.6 million customers across urban centres, emerging towns and rural areas. Airtel said the rollout is aimed at meeting rising demand for high-speed data services and improving network performance across the region.

The company stated that more than eight new 5G sites were activated daily during the expansion period, enabling faster internet speeds, broader coverage and improved network reliability. The enhanced infrastructure is expected to support activities such as video streaming, digital payments, remote working, online education and other data-intensive services.

Airtel said customers across all districts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir will benefit from the strengthened network footprint. The upgraded infrastructure is intended to provide high-speed 5G connectivity to individuals, businesses, educational institutions and government organisations in both urban and rural areas.

Commenting on the development, Anupam Arora, Chief Executive Officer – Upper North, Bharti Airtel, said data consumption across the four states and Union Territory continues to grow rapidly, necessitating further investments in network infrastructure.

He said the deployment of over 2,900 new 5G sites would help deliver faster speeds, wider coverage and a more reliable user experience for the company’s customer base in the region. Arora added that Airtel remains committed to strengthening digital connectivity and supporting the region’s ongoing digital transformation through continued network expansion.

The announcement comes amid increasing adoption of 5G services across India, with telecom operators continuing to invest in infrastructure to improve coverage and meet growing consumer demand for high-speed mobile internet services.
