Dy CM Questions Quality, Quantity of Material Used in Naninara Bridge

Bandipora, June 10: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday directed officials to verify the quantity and specifications of iron used in the construction of the Naninara bridge on the Sumbal–Bandipora road after expressing concern that the material have not been used in accordance with prescribed standards.

During an inspection of the bridge site, Choudhary said he suspected that the quantity of iron used in the structure appeared to be less than what may have been required under approved specifications.

“What I see, I am saying that I feel they have compromised on the usage of iron,” the Deputy Chief Minister said while inspecting a portion of the bridge.

He directed the Superintending Engineer to immediately examine the specifications of the iron used, including its gauge and quantity, and conduct the necessary tests to verify compliance with approved standards.

The Deputy Chief Minister also expressed concern over delays in the completion of the project, stating that the bridge should have been finished much earlier.

“There should not have been such a long delay. It is a very small bridge,” Choudhary told reporters at the site.

He said engineers had assured him that the remaining work would be completed next month and expressed confidence that the bridge would be opened to vehicular traffic by August.

The Naninara bridge is a 20-metre-long structure being constructed by the Roads and Buildings Department at an estimated cost of ₹4.1 crore. Officials have been asked to submit the findings of the material verification and ensure that construction work adheres to the prescribed technical standards before the project is completed.
