Bandipora, June 5: In line with the directions of the Chief Education Officer Bandipora, World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Mantrigam on Thursday, with active participation from students, teachers and various wings of the institution.
The programme was presided over by Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray and coordinated by Iftikhar Rashid Wani, Lecturer and In-charge Eco Club, in collaboration with the Sports Wing under the guidance of Tanveer Saleem.
An official, while speaking to Kashmir Convener, said that the celebrations began with a keynote address by Iftikhar Rashid Wani, Lecturer in Environmental Science, who highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable living. This was followed by a seminar competition in which a large number of students participated.
In the seminar competition, Amanat Sofia of Class 12th secured first position, while Soliha of Class 12th and Aatira Jan of Class 11th secured second and third positions respectively. The competition was judged by Gowhar Khalid Baba, Senior Lecturer, and Burhan-ul-Hassan, Teacher, he added.
A painting competition was also organised, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students who expressed their concern for environmental protection through creative artwork. Arya Jan of Class 9th was adjudged the winner, followed by Rutba Shafi of Class 11th, Haleema of Class 10th and Seerat Mushtaq of Class 10th. The competition was judged by Nazima Kounser and Mehreen.
As part of the celebrations, an awareness rally was taken out through the main areas of Mantrigam to spread the message of environmental protection and sustainable practices. Students carried placards and raised slogans highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean and green environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Mohammad Iqbal Magray appreciated the efforts of the students and staff and emphasised the crucial role of youth in building a sustainable future. He urged everyone to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
