Bandipora, June 2: Rashtriya Rifles  stationed in Bandipora on Monday organised a free eye medical camp at NM Higher Secondary School Kaloosa, providing healthcare services to hundreds of residents from the district and adjoining areas.

According to officials, a total of 787 civilians availed medical services during the camp, which was conducted by Army medical teams in collaboration with eye specialists from the 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar.

The camp offered comprehensive vision screening, eye examinations and medical consultations to residents. Women, children and elderly citizens were among those who attended the programme in large numbers.

During the camp, medical teams diagnosed various eye-related ailments and provided free medicines to patients. Spectacles were also distributed to individuals requiring vision correction. Patients identified as needing advanced medical treatment were referred to higher healthcare facilities for further evaluation and care.

In addition to clinical services, awareness sessions were conducted on eye care, personal hygiene and preventive healthcare practices. Medical experts educated participants about the importance of regular eye examinations and measures to maintain good vision and overall eye health.

Officials said the initiative was part of the Indian Army’s ongoing community outreach and humanitarian assistance programmes aimed at improving access to healthcare services in remote and underserved areas.

The camp also served as a platform for interaction between Army personnel and local residents, contributing to community engagement and public welfare efforts in the region.

Residents who attended the camp expressed appreciation for the initiative and said such programmes are particularly beneficial for people who face difficulties accessing specialised healthcare facilities. Several beneficiaries noted that the Army has regularly extended assistance to local communities through medical and welfare initiatives.

Locals also called for the organisation of similar healthcare camps in the future to ensure continued access to medical services, especially for elderly residents and people living in remote areas.

The programme concluded with the distribution of medicines and spectacles to beneficiaries, while patients requiring further treatment were guided regarding follow-up care at specialised healthcare institutions.
