Srinagar, May 31: The J&K Teachers Forum, affiliated with AISTF, on Sunday held an emergency meeting of its State, Provincial and District Presidents to discuss the implications of the recent judgment on the TET issue and chalk out a future course of action.

The meeting, chaired by Forum Chairman Mehraj-ud-Din Zargar, expressed concern over the uncertainty faced by thousands of teachers and asserted that employees should not be held responsible for administrative lapses, policy shortcomings or legal ambiguities that existed prior to their appointments.

The Forum welcomed the statement of Education Minister Sakeena Masood Itoo regarding the filing of a review petition before the Supreme Court and urged the government to pursue all available constitutional and legal remedies.

Addressing the meeting, AISTF National Vice President M. Ameen Khan emphasized unity among teacher and employee organisations and assured that the national leadership would extend full support to safeguard the service interests of teachers in Jammu and Kashmir. He said all available options, including legal remedies, engagement with the Union Government and democratic protest programmes, would be explored if required.

UT General Secretary Mir Bashir reiterated the Forum’s commitment to protecting the jobs and service rights of affected teachers and called for unity among all stakeholders. Several speakers described the judgment as a setback to social justice and stressed that teachers should not suffer for circumstances beyond their control.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution reaffirming the Forum’s commitment to protecting the dignity, service rights and future of teachers and their families while intensifying coordination with like-minded organisations for a united struggle.
