Three Injured in Separate Black Bear Attacks in Kokernag, Duroo; Shifted to GMC Anantnag

Anantnag, May 26: Panic gripped parts of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district after black bears attacked and seriously injured three persons in separate incidents reported from Kokernag and Duroo areas on Tuesday.

Officials said that the first incident took place in the Hergawas area of Tehsil Shahabad Bala, where a black bear attacked a local resident identified as Bashir Ahmad Bumla, son of Lal Din Bumla, a resident of Hergawas. He sustained injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for treatment.

In another incident reported later in the afternoon, two more persons were attacked by black bears in the Fremoo-Gadole forest area of Kokernag. Both sustained serious injuries during the attack.

All the injured persons were referred to GMC Anantnag for advanced medical treatment, officials said.

The incidents have triggered fear among residents living near forest belts, while locals urged the Wildlife Department to intensify monitoring and take immediate preventive measures to avoid further attacks in the area.(kNC)
