New Delhi, May 22: In a major step towards strengthening India’s e-commerce logistics ecosystem, the Department of Posts (DoP), Ministry of Communications, and Flipkart India Private Limited on Thursday signed an agreement for last-mile parcel delivery services across the country.

The agreement was signed in New Delhi by Shri Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager, Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Shri Harvinder Kapur, Director (Commercial), Flipkart India Private Limited, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.

Under the partnership, India Post will provide last-mile delivery services for Flipkart shipments across urban, semi-urban, rural and remote areas, leveraging its extensive postal network.

The collaboration aims to combine India Post’s wide reach and trusted delivery infrastructure with Flipkart’s strong e-commerce presence to ensure efficient, reliable and customer-centric parcel delivery solutions across the country.

Key features of the agreement include nationwide last-mile delivery coverage, delivery of prepaid and cash-on-delivery parcels, OTP-based delivery authentication, real-time shipment tracking, and improved technology integration for smoother logistics operations.

Officials said the partnership is expected to significantly strengthen India’s e-commerce logistics backbone by improving serviceability in underserved and remote regions while enhancing delivery efficiency and customer experience.

Flipkart will leverage India Post’s network of over 1.6 lakh post offices, enabling wider market access and deeper penetration into rural areas.

The Department of Posts said the collaboration will also boost its parcel business and further its transformation into a modern logistics organisation aligned with India’s growing digital economy.

The agreement is seen as a strategic step in supporting the rapid expansion of India’s e-commerce sector by strengthening last-mile connectivity and logistics infrastructure. (PIB)
