GUREZ, May 14: The Tehsil Legal Services Committee (TLSC) Gurez on Wednesday organised a legal awareness programme at Munsiff Court Gurez on the “NALSA Legal Services to Disaster Victims through Legal Services Authorities Scheme, 2010” to sensitise the public about legal rights and assistance available to disaster-affected persons.
The programme was held under the chairmanship of Mehak Mehboob, who oversaw its conduct as Chairperson TLSC Gurez.
Panel lawyer Tajamul Islam and advocate Zakir Hussain served as resource persons during the session and delivered detailed lectures on the provisions and benefits under the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) scheme for disaster victims.
They highlighted the role of Legal Services Authorities in providing free legal aid, rehabilitation support, assistance in compensation claims and access to justice for persons affected by natural and man-made disasters.
The speakers also explained procedures for availing free legal services through legal aid institutions and sensitised participants about the rights of vulnerable and marginalised sections during disaster situations.
The programme saw participation from litigants, court staff, members of the legal fraternity and local residents. Participants appreciated the initiative for spreading legal awareness in the remote area of Gurez.
At the conclusion of the event, the Chairperson TLSC Gurez reiterated the commitment of the Legal Services Authority to ensure access to justice for all and urged participants to disseminate awareness about legal aid services available under various NALSA schemes.
