KUPWARA, May 13: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday asserted that there will be no drug trafficking in the Union Territory, and warned that the administration’s crackdown on the narcotics trade will be made “faster and more effective” in the coming days.

“Let me assure you — there will be no drug trafficking in Jammu and Kashmir. I understand the pain of those suffering from this menace,” LG Sinha said while addressing a public gathering in Kupwara as per Kashmir Convener.

The LG also invited citizens to report instances of innocent people being framed. “If you feel action is being taken against an innocent person, tell me the name. The action will be effective,” he said.

“If some people want to save drug traffickers, then I ask you — should action be taken against them or not? Do you want action? Then say in one voice — there should be action.”

“When the people want it, no power in the world can stop this action,” he added.

The LG described drugs and terrorism as “two heads of the same snake”, and alleged that India’s “terrorist neighbour” was financing terror through drug smuggling. “One head makes money through drugs while the other uses that money to fuel terrorism,” he said.

LG Sinha, however, called for compassion towards addicts. “Drug addicts need our compassion. They are our responsibility. We must ensure they return to society’s mainstream,” he said.

The LG claimed that over the past 32 days, the civil and police administration had struck a “devastating blow” to the entire drug smuggling ecosystem, and that the people’s movement against drugs had turned into a revolution.
