Pulwama Kabaddi League 2026 Begins with Participation of 96 Athletes

Pulwama, May 1: The inaugural Pulwama Kabaddi League 2026 began on Thursday at Pulwama Cricket Stadium with participation of eight teams and 96 athletes from different districts of Kashmir.
The three-day open-category tournament, being held from May 1 to May 3, was inaugurated by Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary in the presence of legislators, officials, sports representatives and spectators.
Among those present at the opening ceremony were Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Hasnain Masoodi and officials from the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
The event is being organised as part of the ongoing Nasha-Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan aimed at promoting sports and youth engagement as part of anti-drug awareness initiatives.
Addressing participants during the inauguration, Dr Choudhary said sports can play an important role in youth development and social awareness. He urged players to promote the message of a drug-free society through sports and community participation.
The opening ceremony also featured a band performance by Solace School.
Teams participating in the league include Pulwama Panthers, Midline J&K, Harmokh Warriors from Bandipora, AR Warriors from Bandipora, United Kashmir from Baramulla, AKC Budgam and Kulgam Tigers.
Officials said the tournament has been conceptualised and organised by Aamir Wani of Dadoora Pulwama, who was selected in Season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League.
According to organisers, the Kabaddi League is part of a wider sports outreach programme being planned across Kashmir Division, including proposed football, volleyball and women-oriented sporting events in different districts
