Gurez Aspirants Seek Road Clearance or SSRB Exam Postponement After Snowfall

BANDIPORA, April 17: Aspirants from Gurez and Tulail have urged authorities to either ensure immediate clearance of the Gurez–Bandipora road or recommend postponement of the upcoming Junior Assistant examination scheduled by the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board on April 19.

The demand comes in the wake of heavy snowfall on April 17, which has led to the closure of the Gurez–Bandipora road, cutting off the remote valley from the rest of the district. Candidates said that if the road remains blocked on April 18, they will be unable to reach their examination centres in Srinagar in time.

In a representation submitted to the authorities, the aspirants stated that the situation may result in many candidates missing the examination despite no fault of their own. They requested that the road be cleared on priority to facilitate travel for students appearing in the examination.

The candidates further appealed that in case restoration of the road is not feasible due to prevailing weather conditions, the matter should be taken up with JKSSB for postponement of the examination.

Aspirants from the snow-bound region said timely intervention is crucial to ensure equal opportunity and prevent academic loss for candidates from Gurez valley.

The closure of the road following fresh snowfall has disrupted normal movement in the area, raising concerns among students and their families ahead of the examination.
