New Delhi, April 17: Parliment Members and Legislators from Jammu and Kashmir, met the Defence Minister on Thursday to raise issues related to road connectivity and infrastructure development in north Kashmir.

Rajya Sabha Members from Jammu and Kashmir included Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Gurwinder Singh Oberoi and Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, while the MLAs present were Nazir Ahmad Gurezi (Gurez) and Qaiser Jamsheed Lone (Lolab).

During the meeting, the delegation urged the Defence Minister to declare the Sumbal–Gurez road as a strategic national highway, citing its importance for connectivity and regional development.
They also requested expediting the construction of the Razdan Tunnel, stating that the project is crucial for ensuring all-weather access to the Gurez valley, which remains cut off during winter months due to heavy snowfall.
The delegation further raised the demand for opening the Gurez–Drass road for civilian traffic to improve inter-regional connectivity. In addition, they sought construction of a road link from Badoab to Sonamarg to enhance accessibility in the area.
According to the delegation, the Defence Minister assured that the demands would be examined and efforts would be made to expedite the Razdan Tunnel project.
Officials said the meeting focused on improving connectivity in remote and border areas, which face prolonged isolation during winters.
The delegation emphasised the need for timely execution of infrastructure projects to facilitate movement of people and ensure access to essential services.
