Convener News Desk

Ramban, April 7: A massive landslide struck the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) between Digdol and Khooni Nallah on Tuesday, blocking the road completely and leading to suspension of traffic, officials said.

The landslide deposited large amounts of debris on the highway, rendering the stretch impassable and disrupting vehicular movement along the key route connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country.

Authorities have suspended traffic on the highway as a precautionary measure, while assessment of the situation and clearance operations are expected to follow.

Officials advised commuters to avoid travel on NH-44 until the road is cleared and declared safe for movement.

The highway, which remains prone to landslides particularly in vulnerable stretches like Khooni Nallah, has witnessed repeated disruptions due to adverse weather and terrain conditions.

Further updates on restoration of traffic are awaited.[KNT]
