Indian Army Organises Half Marathon in Ganderbal, 237 Participate

Ganderbal, March 29: The Indian Army on Sunday organised the PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, KC(P) Half Marathon in Ganderbal, with around 237 runners participating in the open age category, officials said.

The half marathon commenced from Qamariya Ground, also referred to as Madri-Meharbaan Ground, in Ganderbal and concluded at Sainik School Manasbal. The event was conducted to promote physical fitness and youth engagement in the region.

The route covered key locations including Beehama Chowk, Chapergund, Wayil Bridge, Lar and Barsoo before culminating at the school grounds. Army personnel were deployed at various points along the route to manage logistics and ensure the safety of participants.

On the occasion, Veer Pita Shri Ghulam Hassan Malik was felicitated by the General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force (Kashmir), in recognition of the sacrifice of his son, PTR Shabir Ahmad Malik, who was awarded the Kirti Chakra (Posthumous).

Officials said the event witnessed participation from runners across multiple districts, reflecting community involvement. The Army stated that such initiatives are aimed at encouraging youth participation in sports and fostering engagement with local communities.

Participants and local residents appreciated the organisation of the event and acknowledged the logistical arrangements made along the route.

The half marathon concluded with the distribution of awards and a closing ceremony at Sainik School Manasbal.
