Ladakh LG Vinai Kumar Saxena Welcomes Revocation of Sonam Wangchuk’s Detention

Leh, March 14: Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday welcomed the Centre’s decision to revoke the detention of social activist Sonam Wangchuk, describing it as a positive step towards fostering peace and stability in the Union Territory.

In a statement issued from the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, Saxena said the decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs would help create an environment of harmony, mutual trust and constructive dialogue in Ladakh.

He said Ladakh has long been known for the patriotic spirit and peaceful nature of its people, adding that these values are deeply rooted in the region’s culture and traditions and have contributed to maintaining social harmony.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that concerns and issues should be addressed through dialogue and mutual understanding. He said peaceful engagement and cooperation remain the most effective means to achieve lasting solutions.

Saxena also observed that agitation, bandhs and violence do not contribute to meaningful progress and stressed the need for constructive dialogue among stakeholders.

He said Ladakh has consistently demonstrated unity and maturity in dealing with challenges, and noted that the people of the region have often prioritised national interest and social cohesion.

Reiterating the commitment of the Union Territory administration, Saxena said authorities would continue to engage with stakeholders in a spirit of openness and cooperation.

He also expressed hope that with the support of the people, Ladakh would witness sustained peace and accelerated development in the coming years.

The Lieutenant Governor said the administration remains committed to inclusive development, good governance and dialogue to ensure stability and prosperity in the Union Territory.
