Srinagar, Feb 27: Peoples Democratic Party legislator Waheed ur Rehman Parra on Thursday described the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team’s Ranji Trophy victory as more than a sporting achievement, calling it a powerful symbol of unity and renewed hope for the region’s youth.

In a statement, Parra said the triumph was not merely about lifting a trophy but about “showing the way” at a time when social and political discourse is often marked by divisions over region, religion and identity.

He said the team’s performance demonstrated how young players from diverse backgrounds stood together for one badge and one dream, transcending religious and geographical divides to defeat elite teams from across the country.

Parra also remarked that the achievement reflected a broader sense of institutional renewal, noting that the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, once marred by controversy, now represents a system striving for reform and credibility.

Highlighting the emotional weight of the victory, he said the players carried the aspirations of a generation grappling with uncertainty and limited opportunities. “Every run and every wicket carried hope,” he said, adding that the team chose belief over bitterness and determination over despair.

He made special mention of cricketer Aqib Nabi, describing him as a symbol of resilience and promise whose journey inspires young people across Jammu and Kashmir.

Parra said the victory sends a message that the youth of the region belong on national platforms and can excel when provided opportunity and support. [KNT]
