MLA Bandipora Raises Defunct ICU Issue with Health Minister; Probe Assured

Bandipora, Feb 03: Taking serious note of reports highlighting non-functional paediatric and maternal ICUs at District Hospital Bandipora, MLA Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat on Tuesday raised the matter with Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo, seeking an immediate explanation from the department.
The legislator flagged the discrepancy between the government’s claims on the floor of the House and the ground reality at the hospital, where ICU wards established under PM-ABHIM and ECRP-II are allegedly lying defunct and being used for non-medical purposes.
According to MLA Nizamuddin Bhat, the Health Minister assured him that an immediate enquiry would be conducted into the matter. “The minister has taken the issue seriously and assured that responsibility will be fixed if lapses are found,” he told Kashmir Convener.
Bhat said that the reports pointing towards locked ICUs, missing equipment and misuse of specialised wards were alarming and amounted to a grave injustice to the people of Bandipora, particularly expectant mothers and critically ill children.
He stressed that public money running into crores had been spent to strengthen healthcare at the district level, and any negligence or misuse of these facilities would not be tolerated. “If these facilities exist on paper but not in reality, it is a serious administrative failure that must be probed,” he added.
The MLA reiterated that he would pursue the matter until the facilities are made fully functional and accountability is ensured.
