Convener News Desk

Jammu, Feb 3 : The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Tuesday stated that several key departments in Bandipora district, including Police and Jal Shakti, operate under the administrative control of offices located outside the district’s territorial jurisdiction.

The disclosure was made in a written reply by the administration to a question from Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat during the ongoing Budget Session of the Assembly.

As per the official reply, the jurisdictional discrepancies are as follows Police Department: “Some areas/villages of Tehsil Sumbal (including Odina) fall under the jurisdiction of Police Stations Pattan and Mirgund of District Baramulla.”

ICDS (Anganwadi Centres): Certain centres within Bandipora are managed by ICDS officers from Srinagar, Ganderbal, and Baramulla, while the Bandipora ICDS officer also supervises centres located in those neighbouring districts.

Jal Shakti Department: Most areas of Sumbal Sub-Division are under the administrative control of Executive Engineers based in Sopore (Baramulla) and Srinagar.

Soil & Water Conservation: The zonal offices in Bandipora and Gurez function under the administrative jurisdiction of the Soil & Water Conservation Department headquartered in Baramulla.

The government, however, asserted that the current arrangement is effective. “Despite certain departments having jurisdictions that are not co-terminus with the Revenue Department… the existing administrative arrangements are functioning smoothly,” the reply stated.

It further added, “Effective coordination mechanisms are in place among the concerned departments and district administrations, which ensure seamless service delivery.”
