JK Teachers Forum Raises Concern Over Delay in TA Release

Bandipora, Jan 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF), Bandipora, affiliated with the All India Secondary School Federation, has expressed serious concern over the delay in the release of Travelling Allowance (TA) to teachers, attributing it to alleged administrative shortcomings at the Zonal Education Office (ZEO), Bandipora.

In a statement issued here, JKTF Chief Spokesperson Anjum Nisar described the situation as “unfortunate and unacceptable,” stating that the ZEO office reportedly lacks updated official records of teachers who were deputed or were out of station with prior permission.

He said that despite teachers performing their duties with valid approvals, their absence is now being cited as the reason for withholding TA along with salaries. “Teachers cannot be penalised for administrative inefficiency. If official records related to deputations, leave permissions or sanctioned out-of-station duties are not properly updated, the responsibility cannot be shifted onto teachers,” Nisar said.

The Forum maintained that drawing TA along with salary is a legitimate entitlement and should not be linked to verification delays, particularly in cases where Republic Day duties were officially assigned and documented through proper channels.

JKTF urged the concerned authorities to immediately update records, ensure transparency in the verification process, and release the pending TA without further delay. The Forum warned that continued negligence and discriminatory treatment in financial matters could compel it to adopt democratic and legal measures to protect teachers’ interests.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the dignity and rights of teachers, JKTF said it would continue to raise issues affecting the teaching fraternity at appropriate forums.
