Bandipora, Jan 22: A three-day self-defence training camp for boys and girls of Bandipora district, organised by the Indian Army’s Wular Battalion, concluded on Wednesday at Government High School, Malangam.
The camp was aimed at imparting basic self-defence skills to youth, with a focus on personal safety, physical fitness, discipline, confidence and self-reliance. Participants were trained in practical techniques to effectively respond to everyday safety challenges and develop mental resilience.
An official spokesperson said the programme was organised as part of the Indian Army’s community outreach initiatives to engage local youth in constructive, confidence-building activities. The initiative also sought to promote awareness about personal security and encourage participation in sports and healthy pursuits, particularly among rural youth.
Several national-level players participated as trainers during the camp, imparting professional self-defence techniques and motivating participants through their experiences. National Wushu player Sabkat Milak, while addressing the media, said such programmes play a crucial role in empowering youth—especially girls—by enhancing self-confidence and encouraging them to adopt structured physical activities. She added that self-defence training strengthens efforts to steer young people away from drug abuse and other social evils.
A cultural programme, including musical performances, was also organised during the event, adding to the enthusiasm of the participants.
The camp concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, during which students who demonstrated outstanding performance during the training were felicitated.
Participants expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for organising the camp, stating that the training had boosted their confidence and motivated them to remain active and pursue sports and fitness-oriented lifestyles.
