Pulwama Observes National Girl Child Week at Palash Pampore

Pampore, Jan 21: The District Social Welfare Office Pulwama, through Sankalp – Hub for Empowerment of Women (Mission Shakti), on Wednesday organized a Drawing, Painting and Essay Competition at the Child Care Institution (PALAASH), Patalbagh area of Pampore, to mark National Girl Child Week being observed from January 18 to January 24, 2026.
The competition was organized to highlight the importance of protecting, educating and empowering the girl child. Around 50 students from Educational Zones Kakapora and Pampore participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity through sketches, drawings and paintings on themes such as “National Girl Child Day,” “Empowering the Girl Child,” and “Bachao Beti Padhao.”
Each participating student was provided with an art kit comprising water colours, wax crayons, pastel colours, a pencil set and a geometry box. The artworks were evaluated by a panel of judges comprising invigilators, officials told Kashmir Convener.
District Mission Coordinator, Mission Shakti, along with officials of Sankalp – Hub for Empowerment of Women, teachers accompanying the students, and other concerned staff were present on the occasion.
As part of the programme, a symbolic tree plantation drive was also organized within the premises of Child Care Institution PALAASH. The initiative aimed at promoting environmental consciousness while symbolizing the growth, strength and limitless potential of the girl child.
The event reflected a strong commitment towards creating an inclusive and empowering environment for girls. The activities not only celebrated the girl child but also reinforced the collective responsibility of society to nurture, protect and support the dreams and aspirations of every girl.
