Bandipora, Jan 20: The Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bandipora on Tuesday chaired a review meeting of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs)/Adhikar Mitras and other functionaries of DLSA Bandipora and the Taluka Legal Services Committees (TLSCs) of Bandipora, Sumbal and Gurez to assess the implementation of legal services programmes in the district.

The meeting, held at the ADR Centre of the District Court Complex, Bandipora, was attended by officials and Adhikar Mitras from DLSA Bandipora and the three TLSCs. During the review, the Secretary took stock of ongoing legal services activities, identified challenges affecting their effective execution and discussed measures to strengthen coordination among Adhikar Mitras, TLSCs and DLSA functionaries.

Emphasising the need to improve public outreach, the Secretary facilitated the sharing of best practices and invited feedback to enhance the quality of legal aid services and public awareness about the availability of free legal assistance. He specifically directed Adhikar Mitras to intensify awareness on the prevention of child marriage and to conduct door-to-door campaigns under the MCWD 100 Days Campaign, as per the directions of the Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority.

The Secretary urged all Adhikar Mitras to actively disseminate legal awareness, particularly among marginalised and vulnerable sections of society, and to ensure that every village and urban locality in the district is covered. He also stressed the importance of organising more legal awareness camps in far-flung and remote areas of Bandipora.

Further, Adhikar Mitras were directed to regularly visit police stations to ensure that arrested persons receive timely legal assistance, wherever required, through the nearest legal services institutions. TLSC functionaries were instructed to provide prompt, effective and competent legal aid to all eligible beneficiaries approaching them.

The meeting aimed at strengthening the delivery of legal services in the district and ensuring wider awareness about free legal aid mechanisms, with a special focus on reaching the underprivileged sections of society.
