“Echoes of Indus: Dard-Aryans of Ladakh” Screened at 50th ISS National Conference

Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: The ethnographic documentary Echoes of Indus, created by Dr. Suheel Rasool Mir and Ramanand Sarkar with cinematography by Arslaan Manzoor, was screened at the 50th Indian Sociological Society (ISS) National Conference held at SRM University–AP, Amaravati.
The screening was part of the golden jubilee edition of the conference, which convened sociologists, researchers, and academicians from across India to discuss contemporary social transformations.
The documentary offers a visual-ethnographic exploration of the Dard-Aryan community of Ladakh, capturing their history, belief systems, language, rituals, and daily life.
A key focus of the documentary is the community’s resilience in preserving its identity while navigating modern challenges. It showcases how the present-day micro Dard ethnic community of the lower Indus region maintains its land, language, traditions, and communal way of life, passing them across generations, while sustaining a rich civilizational ethos.
The screening reaffirmed the importance of visual documentation in both academic research and cultural discourse, offering audiences an immersive understanding of Ladakh’s Dard-Aryan heritage.
