Sopore, Dec 26: The Member Legislative Assembly for the Sopore constituency, Irshad Rasool Kar today unveiled a comprehensive strategy to harness the Constituency’s significant tourism potential through targeted infrastructure development, with a flagship Eco Park project leading the initiative.
MLA Kar emphasized the critical importance of the long-pending Eco Park, a project originally under the Wular & Mansabal Development Authority (WUCMA). Conceived as a vital asset for local tourism and recreation, the approximately ₹3.75 Crore project is now being actively pursued. “This park is essential for boosting tourism, providing recreational spaces, and elevating the overall appeal of our area. We are confident it will become a major tourist attraction in the coming years,” stated MLA Kar.
He detailed the park’s proposed amenities, including gazebos, walking tracks, amphitheaters, and retail spaces. A core objective is to establish a dedicated platform to promote products and services related to aqua tourism, thereby providing a direct economic boost to the local community.
Looking beyond the WUCMA site, MLA Kar outlined a broader eco-tourism strategy for the Sopore constituency. This plan includes enhancing the existing Eco Park in Tulibal and undertaking an ambitious project to develop a new 10-hectare park in Watlab, Sopore. “The timely completion of these projects will catalyze significant growth in tourism for the Sopore constituency in the near future,” he added.
Acknowledging past delays, the MLA confirmed that substantive work has recommenced on these priority tourism projects in the current financial year.
MLA Kar also expressed a firm commitment to integrating the local fisher community into the growing tourism ecosystem. “We are determined to ensure the fisher community benefits directly from these initiatives, securing employment opportunities and sharing in the constituency’s burgeoning tourism potential,” he affirmed.
The MLA provided updates on additional infrastructure developments, stating that while the Nigli rest house project is currently inactive, he is awaiting administrative approvals to revive it for tourism purposes. Furthermore, plans are advancing to establish Sopore’s largest joggers park at Eidgah.
