Budgam, Nov 11: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Pulwama Waheed ur Rehman Para asserted that if the people of Jammu and Kashmir can grant an electoral mandate, they also possess the power to “reclaim” it.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener in Budgam during ongoing polling, the PDP leader launched a sharp critique against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s National Conference (NC), accusing it of betraying the public trust.
Para stated that after receiving the mandate last year, the NC engaged in a series of betrayals not only with the people of Budgam but with the entire Union Territory.
“Last year, Omar Abdullah did not visit Budgam even once,” Para said. “Now, in this election, he has arrived here with 50 MLAs, camping in people’s homes, despite the fact that no water supply scheme has been completed, no electricity issues have been resolved, and no development has taken place. Yet, in the assembly, Omar led NC leaders labeled their own voters as ‘land-grabbers’ and ‘electricity-thieves’.”
He emphasized that it is time for the people to send a message: “If we have the power to create a mandate and elect someone, we also have the power to snatch it away.”
The PDP leader further questioned the Chief Minister’s use of his public mandate. “What did CM Omar Abdullah do with the mandate he received against the BJP? He then used that very mandate against the people of Kashmir by aligning with the BJP,” Para claimed. “He took a mandate from his own people and then called that same public ‘electricity-thieves’ and ‘land-grabbers’. This shows that CM Omar never had the intention to work for the people.”
Reaffirming his party’s position, Para stated, “It is the PDP that is needed. It does not matter which of our leaders is at the forefront; our stand has always been clear—to fight for the people and for their rights.”
He alluded to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) influence, suggesting their agenda in the Jammu and Kashmir is being advanced. “Everyone knows who is running the BJP’s agenda in Jammu and Kashmir. Aga Ruhullah is an example; one can see it from his statements,” he said.
