Srinagar, Oct 29: The Department of Rural Development & Panchayati Raj has provided an update on the construction of civilian bunkers in the border areas of Uri town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The information was shared in a written reply to MLA Uri, Dr. Sajjad Shafi, during the ongoing Autumn Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

According to the government, in a written reply—a copy of which is with Kashmir Convener—the construction of these bunkers falls under the jurisdiction of the Home Department. A total of 202 individual bunkers and overhead protection trenches have been sanctioned for villages in the Uri region.

To date, 40 of these protective structures have been completed. Officials have confirmed that the remaining 162 bunkers are scheduled to be completed within the next four weeks.

In response to a separate query regarding the construction of additional bunkers for currently uncovered border villages in the Uri constituency, the Department stated that no such proposal is currently under consideration.
