CMO Issues Advisory to Dental Surgeons on Preventing Hepatitis B and C Infections in Bandipora

Bandipora, October 15: The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Bandipora Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Naik has issued a detailed advisory to all registered dental surgeons across the district, urging them to adopt strict infection control measures to prevent the spread of Hepatitis B and C infections in dental practice.

Highlighting that dental procedures carry a significant risk of transmitting blood-borne diseases if proper hygiene is not maintained, the advisory directs all practitioners to strictly follow standard precautions to safeguard both patients and healthcare providers.

Dental clinics have been instructed to ensure Hepatitis B vaccination of all staff, use disposable instruments wherever possible, and maintain proper sterilization of reusable tools. The order also emphasizes the use of protective barriers such as gloves, masks, and eyewear during procedures, along with thorough disinfection of dental chairs and equipment after each patient.

The CMO has further directed clinics to ensure proper biomedical waste disposal as per official guidelines, screen high-risk patients confidentially, and report needle-stick injuries immediately following standard medical protocols.

“All dental surgeons are advised to take these measures seriously to prevent the spread of Hepatitis B and C and promote safe dental practices,” the advisory stated, adding that cooperation from all practitioners is vital to maintain a safe and infection-free environment in dental care facilities.
