Srinagar Police Conduct Raids Across City Against Terror Associates, OGWs
Srinagar, Oct 10, KNT: Srinagar Police on Friday carried out extensive raids at multiple locations across the city in connection with ongoing investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The searches were aimed at tracking terror associates and overground workers (OGWs) affiliated with proscribed militant organizations.
According to police officials, coordinated operations were conducted in several areas of the city, including Ellahibagh, Anchar, Hawal, Ikhrajpora, Methan, Baghat, Lawaypora, and Hazratbal. The searches targeted individuals suspected of facilitating or aiding terror activities.
Residences of over 20 individuals were searched during the operation, including those of Najeeb Sakib Dar of Malabagh Ellahibagh, Owais Muneer Bhat of Dangarpora, Owais Ahmad Bhat of Anchar, Danish Ayoub Badoo of Hawal, Umar Fayaz and Hashim Farooq of Ikhrajpora, Zahid Rashid Ganie of Methan, and several others from Dangerpora, Lawaypora, and Hazratbal areas.
Officials said the searches were conducted in accordance with due legal procedure, in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses, and under the supervision of senior police officers.
The operation’s objective was to seize incriminating materials such as digital devices, documents, and other evidence relevant to ongoing UAPA cases. Police sources said the raids also form part of a broader intelligence-driven effort to pre-empt and disrupt terror conspiracies and activities posing threats to public peace and security.
“Srinagar Police is committed to taking firm legal action against all individuals involved in promoting or supporting terrorism and anti-national activities. Anyone found abetting such acts will be dealt with strictly under law,” a police spokesperson said. [KNT]
