Srinagar, Sept 17: Government Degree College (GDC) Hyderpora on Wednesday organised a blood donation camp in collaboration with its Red Ribbon Club, National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit, and Akhil Bhartiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad, with the aim of promoting voluntary blood donation and creating awareness about its life-saving importance.
The camp, held on the college premises, was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Sharief Ud Din Khan, who described blood donation as a noble act of saving lives and emphasised the role of youth in humanitarian service. “Students must take the lead in such initiatives, for every drop of blood donated has the power to bring hope and save lives,” he said, urging active participation.
The day-long event witnessed an overwhelming response from students across all semesters, along with faculty members, who came forward to donate blood. Medical professionals supervised the process, conducting proper health screenings and ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols. Volunteers from the collaborating organisations facilitated the arrangements, maintaining a smooth and efficient donation process.
To support the well-being of donors, refreshments including juice, bananas, and eggs were distributed after the donation. The atmosphere throughout the camp reflected a spirit of unity, compassion, and social responsibility.
Organisers said the event not only resulted in significant blood collection but also served as an educational platform, raising awareness about the critical need for regular blood donation in saving lives. They credited the collective efforts of the Red Ribbon Club, NSS Unit, and Akhil Bhartiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad for the success of the initiative.
