Jammu, August 1: Continuing its rich tradition of celebrating the holy month of Sawan through devotion, music and classical arts, the historic Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir today announced the commencement of Sawan Mahotsav 2026 during a press conference held at the temple premises.

 

Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir, one of Jammu’s oldest and most revered temples, occupies a special place in the city’s spiritual and cultural landscape. Revered for its rich heritage and centuries-old traditions, the temple has consistently endeavoured to revive the ancient practice of temples serving as centres of devotional music, classical arts and spiritual awakening.

 

The month-long Mahotsav will feature Bhajan Sandhyas every Monday, immediately after the Sandhya Aarti, creating a unique blend of devotion, music, and culture. The temple premises will resonate with soulful bhajans, classical music, Vedic chanting, and traditional dance performances, offering devotees a spiritually enriching experience throughout the holy month of Sawan.

 

This year’s Mahotsav will feature distinguished artistes, including Dr. Rakesh Kalotra, Ms. Mukta Monish Chopra, Pankaj Pradhan, Mrs. Nitika Aggarwala, Bharatanatyam exponent and Dr. Rita Dev, an eminent classical vocalist and disciple of Vidushi Girija Devi, Padma Vibhushan. A special Kathak recital will also be presented by Dr. Priya Dutta and her disciples from Nrityanjali Kathak Dance Academy.

 

Besides these distinguished performers, the temple will also provide a platform to promising local artistes and young talents, encouraging them to showcase their devotion and musical excellence before devotees and connoisseurs of Indian classical music.

Every year, thousands of devotees, music lovers, and admirers of Indian classical arts come together to experience the unique confluence of bhakti, Vedic chanting, devotional music and classical dance. It is heartening to see this initiative reviving the timeless tradition of temples as centres of spirituality, culture and artistic excellence. We also remain committed to encourage young and talented local artistes by providing them with a meaningful platform to showcase their art and keep our rich cultural traditions alive.”

 

All devotees, music lovers, and members of the public are cordially invited to attend the Bhajan Sandhyas and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva while experiencing the timeless beauty of India’s devotional and classical traditions.

 

The Bhajan Sandhyas will be held on 3rd, 10th, 17th,and 24th August after the Sandhya Aarti.
