New Delhi, May 8 : The Ministry of Defence on Thursday confirmed that India has delivered a proportionate and calibrated response to Pakistan’s latest attempts at military escalation, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining peace without compromising national security.

Following the press briefing on Operation SINDOOR held on May 7, where India had described its military action as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” fresh attempts by Pakistan to target Indian military installations were thwarted overnight.

A coordinated drone and missile offensive launched by Pakistan between the night of May 7–8 targeted key Indian cities, including Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

However, India’s Integrated Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Grid and Air Defence network effectively neutralised the incoming threats. Debris from downed drones and missiles recovered across various regions has provided irrefutable evidence of Pakistan’s aggression.

In a firm but proportionate response, the Indian Armed Forces launched targeted strikes on Pakistani Air Defence Radars and associated systems this morning. “India’s response has remained within the same domain and of the same intensity,” the Defence Ministry said, adding that a key Air Defence installation in Lahore has been neutralised.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has intensified ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), using heavy-calibre artillery and mortars in Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors. The unprovoked shelling resulted in the tragic loss of 16 civilian lives, including three women and five children.

India was compelled to retaliate in kind to silence Pakistani artillery and restore calm in affected areas.

The Indian Armed Forces reiterated their restraint and commitment to de-escalation, contingent upon reciprocal conduct by Pakistan. “India remains committed to peace but will not hesitate to act decisively in defence of its citizens and sovereignty,” a senior official stated.
